Possibly one of the most intriguing TED Talks I’ve seen in some time. The idea that algorithms are shaping our urban and global development as a civilization is fascinating. I can state that my current location was dictated by my need for high-speed internet availability. In 2004, Dubai just could not meet my needs and I continue to feel this way in 2011. Here’s a good map to describe why. Toronto has many more lines available to it. It also has a closer proximity to New York, Montreal and Chicago which are major internet hubs. Most of the servers I use are on the Eastcoast of North America. In Dubai, the best servers are located in the UK and India, but the connection is just not reliable enough. If I were in the stock market, this would be of even more importance.
